US stocks extend gains, Dow jumps over 800 pts
US stock markets extended gains in Thursday's session, with the key Dow Industrial Jones index jumping more than 800 points and avoiding a downturn following the release of the latest inflation data.
Earlier, the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that inflation stood at 8.2% in September compared to the same month in 2021, a figure higher than expected. Besides, initial jobless claims for the week ending October 8 increased by 9,000 compared to the previous week, the US Department of Labor said.
The Dow Jones gained 809 points or 2.77% at 1:27 pm ET, while the Nasdaq 100 added 2.19%, and the S&P 500 rose 2.50%. Three minutes later, the euro improved by 0.97% against the dollar, selling for $0.97965.
