I have experienced the same thing while taking trades today. For new traders your advice is very good I can't say much for the experienced ones.

don't get frustrated. keep it simple, keep it small, for the starting do small gains. never borrow money for options, one or two large negative candles will create enough hole in your account that you start fearing the market. Set targets and stoploss which are realistic. And ye...
At the time of Market fall add some lump sum investments in the current portfolio. rest is good
don't think anything will give same results for 15 years. you should review timely and decide accordingly.
keep invested
start with Mutual funds. study their patterns about how they function. then switch to Stocks. approach the large goal by small steps. bit by bit
