Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the Congress for its protest against inflation wearing black clothes by saying some people in their depression wore black clothes and tried to practice black magic but people will never repose their trust in them. He also said that one should not fall for those who engage in short-cut politics for political gains and make empty promises.
Inaugurating a second generation ethanol plant in Panipat through video conference, Modi said some sections tried to insult the legacy of our brave freedom fighters and the country should understand their intent. "Some people practice black magic and perform such acts to change their life. They are caught in a whirlpool of negativity and keep peddling falsehood after falsehood. In their depression they are moving towards black magic. On August 5 we saw they donned black clothes and tried some black magic thinking this would end their misfortune. However, much black magic they perform people will never again have faith in them."

Explaining how ethanol plant and other policies of the Centre would help farmers dispose of wheat and rice stubble in productive ways instead of burning them, Modi said, "those who have a habit of procrastination adopt short-cuts. They may get accolades, or short-term gains or political benefits. But those adopting short cuts will face a short circuit for sure. Our government always looks for a solution."

Modi said there should not be any selfish motives in politics. "If there is selfishness in politics, anybody can go ahead and announce free petrol and diesel. Such steps will snatch away the rights of our children and prevent our country from becoming self-sufficient. Those promoting selfish policies will end up continuously increasing the honest taxpayers burden. Such people will not invest in new technology. They will make false promises to farmers but never set up ethanol plants," he said.

Modi maintained that such behaviour was prevalent among those who talk of steps to deal with climate change. He said such people make big promises and engage in big talk but take no measures. This is regressive policy which is not going to help in nation building and only push us back, he said.
