Stock market update: FMCG stocks up as market falls

NEW DELHI: FMCG shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.

Euro India Fresh Foods(up 18.74%), Hatsun Agro Product Ltd(up 2.29%), Varun Beverages(up 1.70%), DFM Foods(up 1.42%), Mrs Bectors Food Specialities(up 1.38%), Prataap Snacks(up 1.12%), Jyothy Labs(up 1.00%), JHS Svendgaard Laboratories(up 0.88%), Godrej Consumer Products(up 0.64%) and Nakoda Group(up 0.62%) stood among the top gainers.

Future Consumer(down 4.00%), Umang Dairies(down 2.69%), Marico(down 1.20%), Hindustan Unilever(down 1.13%), Bajaj Consumer(down 0.79%), P & G Hygiene(down 0.73%), Dodla Dairy(down 0.70%), Zydus Wellness(down 0.54%), Nestle India(down 0.41%) and Tasty Bite Eatables(down 0.33%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 39.95 points down at 15692.15, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 152.18 points at 52541.39.

Bajaj Finserv(up 4.17%), Tata Motors(up 2.21%), Bajaj Finance(up 2.03%), Hero MotoCorp(up 1.87%), Grasim Industries(up 1.71%), Divis Laboratories(up 1.57%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(up 1.28%), Larsen & Toubro(up 1.02%), Asian Paints(up 0.98%) and State Bank of India(up 0.73%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Tata Steel(down 3.67%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(down 2.92%), NTPC(down 2.15%), Wipro(down 1.3%), Infosys(down 1.27%), Reliance Industries(down 1.21%), Hindustan Unilever(down 1.13%), Coal India(down 1.12%), Tech Mahindra(down 0.98%) and ITC(down 0.77%) closed in the red.
