Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.88%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.

Shares of Sona BLW Precision Forgings(up 1.46 per cent), Balkrishna Industries(up 1.29 per cent), Eicher Motors(up 1.22 per cent), MRF(up 1.2 per cent) and Bosch(up 0.53 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra(down 1.94 per cent), Samvardhana Motherson International(down 1.85 per cent), TVS Motor Company(down 1.77 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(down 1.42 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(down 1.3 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.88 per cent down at 13206.85.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 45.85 points at 17616.3, while the BSE Sensex stood up 158.18 points at 59708.08.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 23 ended in the green, while 27 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, PNB, Suzlon Energy, Vodafone Idea and Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Chaman Metallics Ltd., Manaksia Ltd, Apar Industries, Upsurge Seeds of Agriculture Ltd. and Ascom Leasing & Inve hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Adani Ports SEZ, ICICI Pru Life, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Seamec Ltd and Mahamaya Steel hit their fresh 52-week lows.
