Stock market update: Nifty Auto index advances 1.81%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a positive note on Tuesday.

Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra(up 3.78 per cent), Ashok Leyland(up 3.13 per cent), Eicher Motors(up 3.02 per cent), Bharat Forge(up 2.33 per cent) and TVS Motor Company(up 1.94 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, TIINDIA(down 0.89 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 1.81 per cent up at 12925.75.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 86.8 points at 17577.5, while the BSE Sensex stood up 257.43 points at 59031.3.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 38 ended in the green, while 12 closed in the red.

Shares of Suzlon Energy, Zomato Ltd., YES Bank, Vodafone Idea and Tata Steel were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Shanthi Gears, Selan Expl Tech, Apar Industries, Premier Exp and Kokuyo Camlin hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Karda Const, Future Enterprises, Agni Green Power Ltd., GVK Power Infra and OrissaBengalCarrier hit their fresh 52-week lows.
