Stock market update: Power stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.

ADANIGREEN(up 6.49%), PIGL(up 4.81%), Hitachi Energy India(up 2.93%), Voltamp Transformers(up 2.23%), Karma Energy(up 2.22%), Tata Power Company(up 1.96%), KPI Green Energy(up 0.93%), GE Power India Limited(up 0.51%) and Kalpataru Power Transmission(up 0.21%) stood among the top gainers.

Inox wind(down 8.32%), Adani Transmissions(down 7.51%), JSW Energy(down 7.43%), NLC India(down 5.96%), CESC(down 5.22%), Gujarat Industries Power(down 5.10%), Alstom T&D India(down 4.99%), Indowind Energy(down 4.97%), Energy Development Company(down 4.82%) and Indo Tech Transformers(down 4.80%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 72.95 points down at 16167.1, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 276.46 points at 54088.39.

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(up 2.69%), Axis Bank(up 1.91%), IndusInd Bank(up 1.38%), Cipla(up 1.24%), HDFC(up 0.81%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(up 0.78%), Kotak Mahindra Bank(up 0.71%), JSW Steel(up 0.57%), SBI Life(up 0.56%) and HDFC Bank(up 0.56%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Shree Cement(down 3.78%), Larsen & Toubro(down 2.31%), Bajaj Finserv(down 2.2%), Bajaj Finance(down 2.05%), NTPC(down 1.87%), Power Grid Corporation of India(down 1.83%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation(down 1.8%), Infosys(down 1.69%), Maruti Suzuki(down 1.59%) and ITC(down 1.58%) closed in the red.
