Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 68.5 points up at 18191.0 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Shaily Engg Pla, Kavveri Telecom, Sintex Inds., Godha Cabcon & Insul and Abans Holdings Ltd., touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 31 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 18 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Eicher Motors, Bharti Airtel, SBI, Tata Steel and IndusInd Bank were among top gainers during the day, while Apollo Hospital, Tata Motors, Titan Company, UltraTech Cem. and Divis Labs ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 223.6 points up at 61133.88.
Traders piled up positions in Telecommunications, Retail, Gas & Petroleum, Power and Sugar sectors, while selling was witnessed in Learning & Education, IT Enabled Services, Services, NBFC and Glass sectors during the day.
