The virtual foundation stone laying ceremony of four medical colleges in Rajasthan on Thursday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi acquired a political hue with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot enumerating his government's achievements and enlisting a slew of demands. PM thanked the Congress leader for exuding confidence that the present dispensation at the Centre has the capability to fulfil them.
The political overtones were also visible from the leaders who attended the programme. Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota MP Om Birla, former BJP Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Jal Shakti Minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Leader of the Opposition Gulab Chand Kataria were in attendance. Birla also spoke on the occasion.

Modi laid the foundation stone for medical colleges in Banswara, Sirohi, Hanumangarh and Dausa districts of Rajasthan. He underlined that after he assumed office in 2014, his government has sanctioned 23 medical colleges for Rajasthan and seven of these are operational.

Welcoming the PM's initiative, Gehlot said only three districts in Rajasthan now do not have a medical college. "With the approval for 30 medical colleges in Rajasthan so far, only Jalore, Pratapgarh and Rajsamand do not have a medical college. These are also the most backward districts. Medical colleges should also be approved for them," he said.

The CM further asked the Centre to approve the reopening plan of Rajasthan Drug and Pharmaceutical Limited and setting up of Medical Devices Park in Boranada, Pharma and Bulk Drug Park in Kota

In his address, Modi said he had noticed chief minister enumerating a long list of demands from the Centre. Modi said it is nice to see that the CM has faith in the present central dispensation to fulfil these demands.
