The ET Future of Jobs 2022 summit that concluded on Friday, May 20, 2022, brought together industry leaders, academicians, investors, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and thought leaders to deliberate on the consequence of widespread technological disruptions on the job market as well as the skills that will be required to keep pace with the changes taking place across industries.
ET Future of Jobs 2022 summit was hosted live on May 20, from 3pm onwards, for a global audience of over 2000+ attendees, in association with ThinkExam as co-presenting partner, NIIT Ltd as Skilling Partner, CoinDCX as Talent Partner, and ICFAI Business School as the B-School Partner for the event.
The Future of Jobs Report, which was produced by a team of editors and reporters specializing in tech and the job market, was also launched on the sidelines of the event. The report explores how technological advancements will drive the change and the need for upskilling to keep pace with those changes. The report also shares insights regarding the role of human beings in a future that will be guided by artificial intelligence and run on algorithms.

“We are now living in the digital world and the digital world is leading to the metaverse. It is the world where we move from reality to virtual reality, simultaneously. We are going to create a virtual reality of simulations of cities, of towns, of businesses and everything and we will live in the real world and we will move between the two with the blink of an eye. For most people who work in the metaverse, it means that it’ll be almost seamless. You will not know whether you are living in the physical world or the metaverse. That implies digitisation, use of artificial intelligence, use of machine learning, use of robotics, use of humanoids, and use of such technologies will be of very great degree and when that happens, the way of doing business and the way of doing things will change dramatically,” he said.
He further added that the global supply chain will move to the back-end and that there will be change in the areas of interaction including how we travel. The healthcare industry will also get disrupted because of the upcoming era of genomics.
“With this increase in the population of the workforce which is going to enter this space, we do have a challenge in terms of them being relevant and that is the only challenge we have” he said.
Abhishek further added that because of the rapid change in technology that is happening globally, a lot of new technologies are emerging everyday and the way businesses are run are becoming different everyday. With the evolution of technology, “the requirements and necessity of the individuals getting skilled into the newest technologies is also increasing,” he added.
"For industries such as Web3 which are just taking shape, we know that we may not really get ready talent. So, it's about beyond the skills that we need today. It's about looking for the right kind of attitude and approach so that we can get the idea of where the person has the potential to build in the Web3 space. So, essentially that's how hiring transforms," said Mudita Chauhan.
In a fireside chat, R Prasad, Director - Academic Wing, ICFAI Group, talked about how business schools should evolve to prepare the business leaders of tomorrow. He emphasized that India is the largest provider of management education in the world.
"India is a very vast country and the needs are very different. So, if everyone is taught to be like an IIM or if everyone desires to be at IIM, it won't work out. The local B-schools are expected to take care of local needs. You need innovation everywhere. The local, regional, national and global business schools need to play different roles," he said.
A panel discussion also turned the focus on the need for reforms in the current engineering curriculum and brought to the fore, the thoughts of the experts on skilling for the bold new digital and gig economy and gave a glimpse of the evolution of the organizational structures in the coming years.
