Have you ever dreamt of recreating SpongeBob Squarepants’s under-the-sea pineapple house? Or living in a 6-ton potato? Airbnb could help you with that.
The home-rental platform is seeking ideas from existing and aspiring designers, architects and DIYers around the globe and has launched a $10-million fund to finance 100 of the craziest ideas. 100 people will get the opportunity to turn their out-of-this-world ideas into actual Airbnb OMG! Category listings (Airbnb’s collection of the most unique homes), courtesy of the start-up.

    Get started
To participate, users can visit airbnb.com/omgfund and submit their idea before July 22. Each of the final 100 participants will receive up to $100,000 to make their creations possible and, ultimately, bookable.

Ideas will be judged by an expert panel for their originality, feasibility, the experience the space will provide guests, and sustainability, the company said. The panel includes centenarian style icon Iris Apfel; architect Koichi Takada, who is known for emotive design inspired by the natural world; Kristie Wolfe, prolific creator of Airbnb OMG! Listings including the Potato Hotel; and Bruce Vaughn, Disney alum and Airbnb’s VP of Experiential Creative Product.

    Flexible living

Airbnb’s fund is a result of the flexible living trend that has emerged in the past two years. As part of this shift, Airbnb guests are craving more unexpected spaces that become the destinations themselves. In the last two years, the company says nights booked at unique properties have increased by over 49 percent globally.
