Stock market update: Power stocks up as market falls

NEW DELHI: Power shares closed lower in the Friday's session.

Indo Tech Transformers(up 6.63%), Transformers and Rectifiers(India)(up 6.60%), Jyoti Structures(up 4.90%), Orient Green Power Company(up 4.76%), Suzlon Energy(up 3.63%), Kalpataru Power Transmission(up 3.40%), Karma Energy(up 3.37%), Suzlon Energy-Partly Pd up Right Is(up 2.78%), NHPC(up 2.28%) and Indowind Energy(up 2.16%) stood among the top gainers.

KPI Green Energy(down 2.80%), Inox Wind Energy(down 2.58%), Hitachi Energy India(down 2.34%), Energy Development Company(down 2.10%), PIGL(down 2.10%), GE Power India Limited(down 1.35%), CESC(down 1.34%), JSW Energy(down 1.28%), Gujarat Industries Power(down 1.17%) and Reliance Power(down 1.07%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 80.2 points down at 18027.65, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 236.66 points at 60621.77.

Coal India(up 1.36%), Power Grid Corporation of India(up 1.13%), HDFC Bank(up 1.02%), HDFC(up 0.9%), ITC(up 0.74%), Tata Motors(up 0.6%), ICICI Bank(up 0.48%), Dr Reddys Laboratories(up 0.42%), State Bank of India(up 0.4%) and Axis Bank(up 0.2%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever(down 3.81%), Asian Paints(down 2.73%), Bajaj Finance(down 2.53%), JSW Steel(down 2.45%), Nestle India(down 2.44%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(down 2.43%), SBI Life(down 2.04%), Hindalco Industries(down 1.79%), Bajaj Finserv(down 1.62%) and UPL Ltd(down 1.3%) closed in the red.
