Stock market update: Nifty Pharma index falls 1.4%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Pharma index closed on a negative note on Friday.

Shares of Pfizer(up 0.94 per cent), Abbott India(up 0.49 per cent), Sanofi India(up 0.23 per cent) and Glaxosmithkline Pharmaceuticals(up 0.07 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals(down 4.27 per cent), Dr Reddys Laboratories(down 3.58 per cent), Gland Pharma(down 3.4 per cent), Lupin(down 2.87 per cent) and Granules India(down 2.28 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Pharma index closed 1.4 per cent down at 12636.2.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 145.9 points at 18269.0, while the BSE Sensex stood down 461.22 points at 61337.81.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 5 ended in the green, while 44 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, UCO Bank, Suzlon Energy, IOB and PNB were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of FACT, Rajshree Sugars, Madras Fert, Sakthi Sugars and Ugar Sugar Work hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Cerebra Integrat, Sanwaria Consumer, Indiabulls Intgrtd, Coastal Corp(PP)and Sintex Inds. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
