Marico top boss, Harsh Mariwala, often shares his pearls of wisdom with his LinkedIn followers. From stories of personal struggles and learnings to lessons on entrepreneur skills, the 72-year-old in terse yet friendly verses packs a lot of wisdom, and his latest post is no different.
Taking to his LinkedIn profile, the FMCG boss, earlier today pointed out the need of dreaming big, but starting small. Mariwala wrote that often in a hurry to get big we overlook our blind spots. This is why it is important to experiment and prototype.

"Try things on a small scale. And once you've cracked the formula, then scale up. It's okay to dream big but always keep your feet on the ground,” he said.

Three days earlier, Mariwala had doled out tenets of entrepreneurship and said that it may seem like an exciting opportunity, but can be a 'lonely journey' and explained why it is important to pick the brain of the peers every now and then.

The entrepreneur said, “Friends and families can be great support systems. However, I've also developed a group of peers to help me through the difficulties. We meet every few weeks and discuss our triumphs and learnings. Only someone who has been in your shoes can truly understand and guide you.”

For the uninitiated, Harsh Mariwala founded Marico in 1987, turned it into an ₹8,000-crore FMCG company comprising brands such as Parachute, Saffola, Mediker, Revive, Setwet.

Despite being born into a family-run company - Bombay Oils Industries – Mariwala struck out on his own, and faced stiff opposition from his family. However, few resourceful cousins helped him in the initial journey, and the rest as they say is history.
