    After up to 2,500% surge in 2021, 6 of top 10 BSE500 winners take a big hit

    Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra), which zoomed a solid 2,496 per cent in 2021, is down 40 per cent this year. Recently, the stock was in the news when the telecom operator announced that it will be issuing shares to the government of India in lieu of interest on the deferred spectrum and AGR dues. The company has been reporting losses for the last 13 consecutive quarters and in the last 40 quarters, it has reported profit only once.

    Six out of the top 10 BSE500 performers of 2021 were trading up to 62 per cent lower in 2022 so far. Adani Group scrips namely Adani Transmission and Adani Total Gas have been the only two stocks among them that more than doubled this year, in addition to 2021's solid show.

    The best performer of 2021 from the pack, Brightcom Group, has plunged 61.74 per cent year-to-date (YTD). The scrip on Thursday, September 8, 2022, closed at Rs 41.10, down 61.74 per cent over its adjusted December 31 price of Rs 107.43. The company in March 2022 issued bonus shares in 2:3 ratio. The company has called off its deal to acquire MediaMint, saying some of MediaMint's recent client additions are in the same business as Brightcom, which could impact the growth prospects of the combined business.

The total combined losses in the last 40 quarters are over Rs 21,000 crore, Times NOW reported.

    Saregama India, the third biggest BSE500 gainer of 2021, is down 19.71 per cent this year. This stock had gained 529 per cent in 2021. Trident, the fourth biggest 2021 gainer, also had a similar fate. This stock tanked 25 per cent in 2022 after rising some Rs 440 per cent in 2021.

    IT stock KPIT Technologies is down 8 per cent, following a 322 per cent rally in 2021. HLE Glascoat plunged 32 per cent this year against a 284 per cent rally last year.

    Meanwhile, Adani Total Gas delivered 111.73 per cent return this year, in addition to 357.36 per cent return last year. Another Adani group stock Adani Transmission surged 126.47 per cent in 2022 so far after rallying 295.89 per cent in 2021. JSW Energy (up 16.90 per cent) and Gujarat Fluorochemicals (up 38 per cent) are two other stocks that beat the market returns in 2022 after soaring 325-343 per cent last year.
