Maruti Suzuki is set to launch its five-door SUV Jimny next month. Globally, Mauti's parent Suzuki has sold more than 3.2 million units of Jimny in three-door configuration. It is for the first time a five-door version is being launched. Maruti has invested around Rs 960 crore in developing the five-door Jimny. And the automaker hopes to boost its market share in the SUV segment, along with its other models such as Brezza, Fronx and Grand Vitara models.

"It is an important product in terms of the rub off effect on the overall Maruti brand..Jimny has a legacy as an accomplished SUV so that will surely help us in our overall SUV push in the country," Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Senior Executive Officer (Sales and Marketing) Shashank Srivastava told Press Trust of India.

Positioned as an all-terrain compact lifestyle SUV, Jimny has already received around 30,000 bookings so far. The SUV will be sold through its premium Nexa dealership.

The Jimny could be priced from around Rs 9 - 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom), according to a Times of India report.

First introduced in 1970 by Suzuki, the Jimny in India will be the 4th generation 5-door avatar of the model.

Jimny has a seating capacity of 4 people. The boot space in NEXA Jimny by Maruti Suzuki is 208L which can be increased to 332 L with the rear seat folded. The Jimny has a fuel tank capacity of 40 L.

The Jimny comes equipped with 6 airbags which come as standard across all variants.

It is powered by a K15B Petrol Engine with Idle Start Stop that produces 104.8 PS @6000 rpm and 134.2 Nm @ 4000 rpm. Jimny will be available with 5-Speed Manual and 4-Speed Automatic Transmission options.
