India's top metals makers are rolling out vaccination programs for children of its employees in the age group of 15-18 years and are facilitating booster shots for senior citizens and frontline workers as per government guidelines.
"The initiative also includes putting up community vaccination camps for children in this age group in Mumbai and Delhi, the two cities that are witnessing the highest caseload," said Sunil Duggal, Group CEO of Vedanta, in a media statement on Monday.

The company plans to continue organising dedicated vaccination camps for employees, their families and business partners across their operation sites and offices to cover every eligible person.

Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Group is also administering vaccines for kids through its own hospital and clinic across its plant location. "We are encouraging our employees to get their children vaccinated. We are doing it two ways; we are offering the vaccines in our own hospital facility, and we have tie-ups with hospitals to supply the vaccines," said JSW Steel's director, commercial & marketing Jayant Acharya.

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India too has set up vaccination drives to help employees vaccinate their children.

"Being a global player, we are well-prepared and well-equipped with the processes. Just like how we set up vaccine camps for employees and their families, we will do the same now," said AM/NS India's chief marketing officer, Ranjan Dhar.

The government of India announced last month that the precautionary or the booster Covid-19 vaccine dose will be given to healthcare and frontline workers, and those over 60 years of age with co-morbidities from January 10. "As per government guidelines, we are encouraging eligible employees to take the third shot," Acharya said.

"We will provide booster shots for senior citizens and frontline workers in line with the government guidelines and availability of vaccines," Duggal said.

The group had set up 10 field hospitals with 100 beds each in record time last year to provide support to Covid patients and has also tied up with Apollo Hospital and Healthspring.
