According to a regulatory filing, the company's board of directors has approved the investment proposal for establishing Mine III (peak Capacity-11.50 MTPA & Normative capacity- 8.71 MTPA) at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 3,755.71 crore.
At 70%, thermal capacity utilisation highest in a decade in April-June
Thereafter, the utilisation rates, known as 'plant load factor' or PLF, declined to 68% in FY14 due to higher availability of power as new projects were commissioned. The PLF in the first quarter of FY20 (pre-Covid-19) fell to 63% owing to higher generation capacity and lower electricity demand due to the economic slowdown. The utilisation rate in the first quarters of Covid-affected FY21 and FY22 was 47% and 59%, respectively.
JSW Steel, Vedanta, 29 other companies submit bids in commercial coal mines auctions
As many as 38 online and offline bids were submitted during the three rounds of auctions. JSW Steel, Vedanta Ltd, NLC India Ltd, Jindal Power and Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd have submitted the bids. Others companies that have submitted the bids include Birla Corporation Ltd, Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd, Rungta Metals Private Ltd and Godavari Power & Ispat Ltd.

Thermal coal demand to increase to around 1,500 MT by 2040, says Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi
Though best efforts are being made to balance the dependence on coal and lignite with development of renewables, the transition to green energy will mostly be gradual, Joshi said during his maiden visit to NLC India Ltd at Neyeli. NLC India, in a statement, said that Joshi emphasised on the importance of coal in the country's energy security today.
