ā¢ A committee has been set up to study if woman pradhans are used as proxies by spouses or other male members of her family in panchayati raj institutions.
ā¢ The panel will also assess the capacity building needs of elected women representatives and suggest measures for their empowerment.
ā¢ The move comes after a Supreme Court directive and concern raised by a parliamentary panel report on 'proxy control of woman sarpanches by sarpanch pati'.
