China has been accused of carrying out a "spamouflage" campaign to discredit Canadian MPs and silence criticism of Beijing. The campaign involved a bot network leaving thousands of comments on social media accounts of Canadian politicians, claiming that a critic of the Chinese Communist Party had accused them of criminal and ethical breaches. The campaign also used "deep fake" videos targeting individuals. Canadian intelligence agencies and officials have previously accused China of interfering in Canada's elections.
