Jindal Steel & Power Limited is engaged in the business of steel, power, mining, and infrastructure sectors in India, with a significant intervention in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. It has been operating its business, through Iron and Steel Products, Power, and Others segments.
The company provides crane rails and track, welded rail panels; and medium and heavy hot rolled parallel flange beams and column sections are also manufactured by the company. The company is manufacturing palates and rolled coils, which are required for railway wagon, oil and gas pipelines, windmills, bridges and flyovers, railway wagons, defence materials etc. It is producing TMT bars too, which are used in construction segments.
The company has been operating coal and iron ore mines in several places in India and internationally. A double circuit transmission line of 400 Kilo Volt has been owned by the company for the power distribution in India. A thermal power plant with a capacity of 3400 Megawatt is established by the company in Tamnar, Chhattisgarh. Jindal Steel & Power Limited was inaugurated in 1979 and is headquartered in New Delhi, India.
About Company Information:
In 1995, Jindal Power Ltd, a cent per cent subsidiary of Jindal Steel & Power Limited was incorporated, to intervene in the power industry. In May 1998, when an accident took place, the steel melting shop of the organization was closed down. A year later, the Raigarh and Raipur Divisions of Jindal Strips Ltd were separated from the company, in 1999.
Company’s Steel Melting Shop was reopened and made ready for operations, in October 2009. A Round Caster Unit was set up in Raigarh in May 2000 and made ready for producing Rounds.
In 2003-04, universal beams and structures were started to be manufactured by the company, in addition to the production of value-added steel products, which include slabs, rounds, blooms and billets. A Memorandum of Understanding took place between the company and the Government of Chhattisgarh in January 2005.
A Bolivarian firm, El Mutun development came to a joint venture with the company in 2006. Again a Memorandum of Understanding took place between Government of Chhattisgarh and the company, regarding the incorporation of a cement plant and a power plant with capacities 2 million TPA and 30 Mega Watt respectively in Raigarh, against a cost of Rs.720 crores.
The production at the bar mill and a wire rod mill with capacities 1.0 MTPA and 0.6 MTPA respectively at Jharkhand’s Patratu, had been in production since 20101-11. In June 2010, Oman-based Shadeed Iron & Steel Co. LLC was acquired by Jindal Steel & Power (Mauritius) Limited, a solely owned subsidiary of Jindal Steel & Power Limited.
A medium and light section mill with a capacity of 0.6 MTPA was started for operation in January 2011. The fourth unit of 135MW plant at Raigarh in Chhattisgarh and second unit of 135 MW power plant at Angul, Orissa was made ready for production in January 2012, resulted as the commissioning of six units in the series of ten units of 135 Mega Watt.
In August 2013, an announcement was made publicly by the company, that its largest Steel Melting Shop, under an integrated steel plant, having a capacity of 6.0 MTPA would be incorporated at Odisha’s Angul. Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel, company’s Oman-based cent per cent subsidiary, became successful in commissioning an integrated steel plant with a capacity of 2 MTPA at Sohar, Oman.
The company reached a milestone of producing 10,000 tonnes of crude steel in a single day in its steel melting shop at Raigarh in June 2015. Through an official statement, the company announced about commissioning a Rebar Mill with a capacity of 1.4 MTPA at Sohar in Oman, on March 2016. Finally, on May 2017, it was publicly announced by Jindal Steel and Power Limited that the integrated steel plant at Odisha’s Angul, with a capacity of 6 MTPA had been made ready for commencing production, against a capital investment of Rs.33, 000 crores.
Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) declared that Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) issue of Rs.1200 crore had been successfully closed, on March 2018. On April 2018, Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) declared that the company’s ever highest monthly crude steel production record was achieved in March 2018.
