Indraprastha Gas Limited, a City Gas Distribution Company (CGD), supplies Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to the Commercial, Industrial and Domestic sectors in Delhi and National Capital Region and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to the transportation segment. It was found in the year 1998 and is headquartered in New Delhi. It has two subsidiaries; Central UP Gas Limited (CUGL) which operates in Kanpur, Jhansi, Unnao and Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) which operates in Pimpri, Chikan, Pune, Hinjewadi, Telegaon, and Chinchwad in Maharashtra; as City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies.

It has a pipeline network of 11,673 kilometres in an approx. About Company Information:
The company, Indraprastha Gas Limited, was founded on 23rd December 1998 which is a joint project of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. and GAIL (India) Ltd. The company acquired Delhi City Gas Distribution Project from GAIL (India) Ltd in the year 1999. It signed a contract of asset transfer with GAIL on 9th June 2000, and by that the trades of natural gas distribution, compressed natural gas distribution and liquefied petroleum gas distribution as well as the businesses of licenses, customer lists contacts buildings and lands, authorizations, permits were moved from GAIL to Indraprastha Gas Limited. It commissioned and laid four steel pipelines of 20 km length to build CNG online stations during 2003-2004.
During 2005-2006, it signed a contract with BPCL to supply R-LNG to Pearl Drinks, Haldirams, and Britannia Industries, etc. The company entered into a contract with GAIL (India) Ltd to purchase gas, and heavy discussions are running with so many potential consumers for the marketization of the gas on a retail basis. The company expanded its infrastructure of CNG distribution by enhancing the capacity of stations that already did exist and also adding new stations in 2013. The company went into contracts to set up CNG facilities along with its all three Public Sectors Oil Marketing Companies during 2015.
It has obtained 25 lac shares of Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) and made a total share hold of 5 crores during the financial year 2015-2016. The company has incorporated 81 numbers of CNG stations which include 78 stations of retailing Oil Marketing Companies during 2016- 2017 and hence it expanded the compression capacity of the company up to 71 lac kg/day in March of 2017. It has enhanced its pipeline network for the residential PNG business from 707 km to 778 km from the financial year 2015- 2016 to the financial year 2016- 2017.
It has also expanded the MDPE network from 9443 km in the financial year 2015- 2016 to 9940 km in the financial year 2016- 2017. The company gave its best performance in the financial year 2016- 2017 as it provided 1, 05,888 domestic connections in the year. During the year, it provided 45,021 PNG connections in the NCR and 60,867 connections in Delhi. The number of industrial consumers hiked from 821 to 962 in Commercial and Industrial PNG business, and commercial consumers hiked from 1811 to 1908 from March 2016 to March 2017. Indraprastha Gas has finished the CNG kit installation in 2 wheelers (pilot project) eminently.
The Board of Directors of the company has approved the raise in the limit of the shareholding capacity of the Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs)/ Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) from 24% paid-up share of equity to 30% paid-up share of the equity of the company in the meeting organized on 27th April 2017. The company (IGL) has also announced that it has greeted a letter from Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), on 8th February 2018, for granting the authority to the company for developing the CGD network in Karnal District, Haryana.
