About Company Information:
The company was incorporated at Chennai as a private limited firm namely UPDB Micro Finance Private Limited on June 2007, based on the Companies Act of 1956. In February 2008, the name of the company was changed to Equitas Micro Finance India Private Limited, while some resolutions were passed by the shareholders of the firm for keeping up the fairness and trans-piracy of the firm intact.
Pursuing a demerger scheme company’s microfinance business was demerged into Singhvi, from April 2011. The name of the microfinance business was later transformed to Equitas Micro Finance Private Limited from Singhvi. On February 2012, RoC issued a fresh certificate for incorporating the company as Equitas Holdings Private Limited when the shareholders of the firm took a resolution to change the name of the company, pursuing a demerger scheme.
The company was recognized as a Non Systemically Important Core Investment Company by the Reserve Bank of India, as a result of the pursuance of an order issued by RBI on December 2012. At the same time, the previous certificate of the company as a Non-Banking Financial Sector, under Section 45 IA of RBI Act had been cancelled. Just after three years, a special resolution when was approved by the shareholders of the company, it was transformed into a public limited concern, resulting as the emergence of Equitas Holdings Limited as the name of the firm. A new certification regarding the change in name and the type of the firm was issued by the RoC in June 2015.
According to the letter issued by the Reserve Bank of India, under reference DBR.PSBD.NBC (SFB-Equitas). No 4915/ 16.13.216/2015-16, an In-principle approval for small Finance Bank was provided to the company in 2015. Equitas Holdings limited achieved a lump-sum of Rs.720 crores by an Initial Public Offering, to meet its requirements of capital along with funding its subsidiaries. On April 2016, the company achieved a great recognition by listing its name on Bombay Stock Exchange Limited and National Stock Exchange Limited. More than a lump-sum of Rs.600 crores was infused by Equitas Holdings Limited at the same time for three of its subsidiaries Equitas Housing Finance Limited, Equitas Finance Limited and Equitas Micro Finance Limited.
Equitas Finance Limited, a subsidiary of EHL was transformed to Equitas Small Finance Bank Limited in the September of 2016, focusing and emphasizing solely on the lower and lower-middle-class strata of the mass as their target customers and started to develop products relevant to their needs. Equitas Technologies Private Limited had been infused with a capital of Rs.5 crores by EHL during 2017-18. During September 2017, the company had been possessing a total of 375 branches which were increased up to 392 in the same year while another 17 banking outlets led by Business Correspondents (BCs) were commissioned for operation. During the ending period of the financial year 2017-18, the company focussed on the micro-enterprises. It started to introduce Business Loans for this entrepreneurship, identifying their very need of credit.
