The company acquired Distribution Business back in 1967, to provide products, services, solutions and packages for its equipment. It had a nationwide number of 31 authorized dealerships, operating from 200 branch offices along with service touchpoints amounting to 450. This unit offered new as well as rebuilt engines, services, batteries and customer support solutions for products that were manufactured by Cummins.
The first name of the company was Kirloskar Cummins Ltd back in 1962. The company started its initial operations in Pune. In 1997, Kirloskar sold the ownership of their part in the company, ending the partnership. The company raised its stake to 51%, and the rest was traded in the Bombay Stock Exchange. This is how Cummins India Ltd was formed and turned in to a subsidiary of Cummins Inc.
In 1989, the company entered into a joint venture with Crompton Greaves & Newage. They went on to form CG Newage Ltd. All of Crompton’s holdings were sold to Cummins in the year 2002.
