About Company Information:
Controlled administratively by the Department of Defence Production and Supplies, Ministry of Defence, BEML Ltd. was established in May 1964 with a former name Bharat Earth Movers Limited. During its early days of inception, the company started to manufacture mining and construction equipment, having a collaboration with a US firm. A Heavy Earthmoving Equipment Division was established by the firm in Kolar Gold Fields, on 1967-68.
In 1979, an agreement took place between the company and Japan’s Komatsu Limited for technical support for manufacturing equipment for mining and construction. Company’s Dump Truck Division was established at Mysore in 1985, just two years back from the establishment of the highly technocratic and modernized Hydraulics and Powerline Division with an R&D centre at Kolar Gold Field.
To manufacture high potential diesel engines, an engine division was set up by the firm at Mysore in 1991. Govt. of India, along with divesting the equity shares in the company, in 1992, recognized the firm as a public limited company from February 1992. Stock Exchanges at Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Bangalore enlisted the company shares in 1994. In 1996, BEML entered into an agreement with Syria regarding the import of rock phosphate. For generating equipment to CIL projects, the company achieved the orders against an Rs.70, 000 lakh tender of World Bank.
In 2003-04 the company started supplying stainless steel metro coaches of premium quality to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. Going through an agreement of lease property, the company achieved more than 1,100 acres of land and two workshops from Bharat Gold Mines Ltd in Kolar Gold Fields in 2004.
Company’s credible R&D unit developed Load Haul Dumper (LHD) - BL15 in 2005-06, which was exhibited in the IMME – Kolkata. An organizational restructuring took place from April 2006, for participating and impacting upon the global market which resulted as the division of the entire business operation into three segments: Mining & Construction, Defence and Railway & Metro Business.
The Research & Development unit innovated Pipe Layer BP70X, Transmission for BH35-2 and Hydraulic Excavator BE700 in 2007-08. In 2009-10 the R&D of the firm introduced Snow cutter, Armchair steering control, upgraded version of BD 65, and hexagon ROPs cabin, transmission and torque converter for BH 5 and 125 Ton Excavator. In 2010, an MoU was signed between the company and the Karnataka Govt. for launching another manufacturing complex in Bangalore, just a year before the inauguration of BEML Aerospace Manufacturing Division at Mysore in February 2011. By the termination of FY 2014, the market intervention of the company was increased up to 63 countries.
During the termination of FY 2016, the company reached its highest sales since the inception of Rs.3287.44 crores, one year back of making a profit before tax of Rs.98.29 crores, which was the top-most, in the last five-year tenure in FY 2017. FY 2017 has witnessed enormous growth and success of the company, becoming a milestone for the company.
