In 1965, Asian Paints Ltd changed its name to Asian Paints (India) Pvt Ltd. The company was recognized as a public limited company in1973. In 1972, a modernization programme was taken by the company to develop the paint production techniques through developing the entire machinery system of the existing production. Asian Paints inaugurated a paint unit at Patancheru near Hyderabad, for manufacturing 15,000 MT of paints and enamels in 1985. In 1987, the company established a plant for the production of synthetic rubbers lattices having the capacity of 1,200 tonnes per annum.
In 1990, two joint venture companies, namely Asian Paints (South Pacific) Ltd, and Asian Paints (Tonga) Ltd, were promoted by the company. In May 1991, 1910000 equity shares of Pentasia Chemicals Ltd from TIDCO were acquired by the company, and that made PCL a subsidiary of the company. In 2001, the company launched Utsav Enamel. In 2002, the company upgraded its international operations by transferring a significant amount of shares to the Mauritius based subsidiary Asian Paints International. An agreement was signed between Berger International and PT Abadi Coatings Solusi in the year 2003. A plant for the production of powder coating was carried at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh in 2006. In September 2007, the company launched exclusive industrial coatings manufacturing facility at Taloja in Maharashtra, having a capacity of 14,000 KL per annum. A polymer plant was established at Sriperumbudur in 2008.
During the year 2010-11, the capacity of synthetic resins and polymer was increased by 50,000 MT. The company commenced developing a decorative paint plant at Khandala near Pune having an initial ability of 300,000 KL per annum investing around Rs. 1000 crore.
Their company planned to expand the Khanadla plant up to the capacity of 400,000 KL per annum later. Asian Paints, having an intention to intervene in the Home Improvement and Decor space in India, captured 51% stake in Sleek International Private Limited (Sleek), in August 2013. Asian Paints started to possess the whole front and sales business of Ess Ess Bathroom Products Pvt Ltd in June 2014 along with Networks, Brands, and Sales Infrastructure.
In April 2017, acquisition of 100% stake of Causeway Paints Lanka (Private) Limited, Sri Lanka (CPLPL) was carried by Berger International Private Limited (BIPL), Singapore, an indirect subsidiary of Asian paints. On September 2017, BIPL’s wholly-owned subsidiary PT Asian Paints Indonesia, Indonesia (PT API) planned to develop its manufacturing operations with a capacity of 5,000 tons per annum in the Jawa Barat region in Indonesia. On December 2017, further acquisition of the remaining 49% stake in kitchen solution provider Sleek International Private Limited was carried by Asian Paints, and thus it entirely became the subsidiary of Asian paints Ltd.
