Ambuja Cements Limited has several subsidiaries including the .M.G.T. Cements Pvt. Ltd, Dang Cement Industries Pvt. Ltd, Dirk India Pvt Ltd and Chemical Limes Mundwa Private Ltd. Collaborating with Krupp Polysius, Germany, Bakau Wolf and Fuller ... KCP, the company founded a cement plant in 1985. 12.6 MW diesel-generating sets were introduced by the company during the year 1988-89. The company was approved to set up a new cement plant having 1 million tonne capacity per annum at Himachal Pradesh, in 1991. Commercial production in Kodinar plant was started in the year 1997. 1998 witnessed an international success as the company founded a $20 million clinker grinding unit in Sri Lanka.
The giant monopolies such as Larsen & Tubro (L&T) and Gujarat Ambuja Cements came under an agreement for lowering the transportation costs in dispatching bulk cement in Gujarat. Maratha Cement Works plant was started in 2002 for commercial production. Amalgamation with Ambuja Cement Rajasthan took place in 2004. Possessing a capacity of 80 TPH cement plant at Darlaghat was set up by the company in February 2005. In July 2005 a subsidiary company Indo-Nippon Special Cements Ltd was amalgamated with the company.
A new clinker capacity at Bhatapara in Chattisgarh and Rauri in Himachal Pradesh were set up, with each holding capacity of 2.2 million tonnes per annum at Rs.1600 crore in the same year. Global Cement Major Holcim procured management control of the company in 2006. In December 2009 and January 2010, two new clinker production lines with a holding capacity of 2.2 million tonnes were started at Bhatapara (Chattisgarh) and Rauri(HP) for industrial production respectively.
A cement plant (grinding unit) at Dadri, Uttar Pradesh was incepted in February 2010, with a capacity of 1.5 million tonnes. A cement plant (grinding unit) at Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh was inaugurated in March 2010, with a capacity of 1.5 million tonnes. In 2011, at the cost of approx. Rs.185 crore at Bhatapara plant, commercial production in a new cement mill was started. In the same year, the organization founded a new cement mill of 0.9 million tonne capacity at Maratha Cement Works plant, costing around Rs.61 crore. Signing a joint venture with County Microfine Products Pvt Ltd, the company entered for speciality cement manufacturing facility in Goa.
Board of Directors of Ambuja Cements approved to acquire a stake of 50.01% in ACC in July 2013. The completion of Rs.338-crore expansion project at the Sankrail grinding unit near Kolkata was declared by Ambuja Cement in May 2016. That increased the capacity of the unit to 2.4 million tonnes per annum from 1.5 million tonnes per annum. A superior composite cement product providing a better sustaining quality was launched on April 2017 by Ambuja Cement, under the brand Ambuja Compocem. On the next month, May 2017, the company decided to form a committee, particularly with the directors of the firm to take necessary and relevant steps regarding the merger of Ambuja.
