Dhirubhai Ambani was one of the rare business men who could do anything to protect the money of his share holders.
He was very much aware of bear cartel after IPO of Reliance industries was launched. It's not on the internet much but it is believed that Dhirubhai had formed a secret company or had joined hands with some small external organization (his friend) and pumped money into it to buy his own shares.
When Manu bhai and other bears were taking short positions of reliance Dhirubhai was buying everything they were shorting and there was a time when not many shares were left to be traded and lot of bear cartel money was at stake.
In share market the bears only make money if they short sell the shares and buy them at lower price again to cover their shorts. But in case of Reliance Dhirubhai never sold a single share and the price went up and reliance share was doubled in no time.
At that time bears were panicked as they were having big number of shorts with no buyers in the market. In the end they all had to pay heavy penalty to exchange to save themselves.
After that incident nobody dared to touch Reliance Industries.
