Europe closes lower after data reports
Major European stock indexes closed Monday's session with losses as investors processed the latest economic data from the continent. Manufacturing activity in the Eurozone declined slightly in September, while the manufacturing sector activity in the UK and Germany saw a modest rise in the same month. In addition, the Eurozone unemployment rate remained unchanged in August.
The DAX closed 0.91% lower, with Fresenius SE decreasing by 3.60%. The CAC 40 fell 0.95% and the FTSE 100 declined 1.28%. The pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 went down 0.88%, as Compagnie de Saint-Gobain SA plunged 3.82%.
The euro was down by 0.63% against the dollar at 5:29 pm CET, selling for $1.05077. The pound lost 0.51% to go for $ a1.21425 at the same time.
