Asia-Pacific mostly higher, Hang Seng up by 2%
Major stock market indexes in the Asia-Pacific traded mostly higher as Evergrande Group temporarily halted trading until an unknown date after its chairman Hui Ka Yan was charged with what the company described as "illegal crimes," providing some stability to the session in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Japan reported only minor monthly changes in inflation and unemployment and none in industrial production.
Japan's Nikkei 225 declined by 0.23% at 4:20 am CET as the dollar stood flat against the yen to sell for ¥149.3220. A minute later, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rose by 0.38%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng grew by 2.02% or 351 points at 4:21 am CET.
South Korea's Kospi and mainland China's Shanghai Composite and Shenzhen Composite were closed due to the Chuseok Festivity and the Mid-Autumn Festival, respectively.
