The Adani Power started its power trading in September 1996 with headquarter at Ahmedabad. The company became a private limited company in June 2002 and emerged as Adani Power Pvt. Ltd. In 2004, the internal restructuring made a transfer of the entire shareholding in the hands of Mundra Port and SEZ Limited (MPSEZL). On May 2006, the MPSEZL transferred the whole shareholding in the hands of Adani Enterprise Limited. On February 2007 Adani Power Pvt. Ltd. signed an agreement with Gujrat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, for the supply of power on a long term basis. On April 2007, the company became a public limited company, emerging as Adani Power Limited. With IPO of 30, 16, 52, 031 equity share of 10 INR, Adani Power Limited intervened the capital market for the first time in FY 2009-10.

In November 2010, the company uplifted the capacity up to 660 Megawatt by installing another unit of 330 Megawatt.
