Vardhman Special Steels (VSSL, BOM:534392) posted a net profit of 278.0 million Indian rupees ($3.8 million) in the first quarter ended June 30 as against a net loss of 127.8 million rupees a year ago.

Earnings per share stood at 6.82 rupees compared with a loss per share of 3.16 rupees, according to a Wednesday filing.

Revenue from operations in the three months to June rose sharply to 3.30 billion rupees from 678.6 million rupees in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.
