2021 September Fourth Week - Stock Market News Highlights

 Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in Mumbai on Friday celebrated as SENSEX breaches 60,000 Mark and NIFTY neared to 18,000. Finally BSE settles at 60,048 and NSE at 17,853.

Realty, Telecom and IT indices rose the most, while Power, Metals, Consumer Durables, and Healthcare indices fell the most.

1) The GST Council has decided that petroleum products will not be included under GST. Also, the council announced the rate on biodiesel, which is supplied to oil marketing companies for blending with diesel, will be reduced from 12% to 5%.

   The GST rate on ores and concentrates of metals such as iron, manganese, etc., has been raised from 5% to 18%

   According to Business Line, the GST Council has agreed to correct the inverted duty structure of footwear and textiles from January 1, 2022.


2) Private equity firm Carlyle Group will nearly halve its stake in SBI Cards and Payment Services for around Rs 3,267 crore, according to deal terms.

3) HCL Technologies announced a five-year digital transformation deal with US-based MKS Instruments, the company said in a regulatory filing. The partnership is intended to improve performance, productivity, and speed to market.

4) L&T, Petronet LNG: L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering, a wholly owned subsidiary of L&T, has won an order from Petronet LNG for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of two LNG Storage Tanks at Dahej, Gujarat.

5) Godrej Consumer Products has partnered with Bangalore based InMobi to enhance its digital marketing capabilities and pioneer precision marketing at scale.

   Godrej Consumer Products has increased its stake in three of its subsidiaries to 100%. The subsidiaries are Godrej West Africa Holdings, Mauritius, Darling Trading Company and DGH Phase Two Mauritius.

6) HDFC Bank inks pact with Paytm to ramp up credit card issuance powered by VISA.

7) Tata Power’s subsidiary, TP Saurya Ltd, has got a contract from Maharashtra State Power Generation Co Ltd (Mahagenco) to set up a 250-Mw grid connected solar photovoltaic power plant .

8) AU Small Finance Bank announced that it has issued over 40,000 credit cards, of which, over 50% are issued to first-time credit card users.

9) Eicher Motors: Several top-level managers of the company have submitted their resignations.

10) Adani Ports: The board of directors in a meeting on 18 September 2021, has given their in-principle approval for issuing NCDs for capex of existing debt and general corporate purpose.

  Adani Ports completed the acquisition of a 10.4% stake in Gangavaram Port.

11) Kotak Mahindra Bank on Monday announced that the bank has agreed to buy around a 9.98% stake in KFin Technologies for Rs 310 crores.

12) Cipla has subscribed to 5% equity shares of Swasth Digital Health Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, with an aim to leverage digital technologies and build healthcare tech infrastructure.

13) Hero MotoCorp is working to launch a Harley-Davidson model with retro styling as the company is gearing up to enter the segment of premium motorcycles.

14) Bharti Airtel has said that it will reduce greenhouse emissions by 50% in the next 10 years.

      The Rs 21,000 crore rights issue of telecom major Bharti Airtel would open on October 5. The closing date of the issue was stated as October 21, 2021.

        Tejas Networks has signed an optical network expansion deal from Airtel. The deal is to supply, install, and support its optical transmission network for extending Airtel’s optical network towards the edge, supporting 5G backhaul, B2B services, and broadband applications.

      Airtel’s user base increased by 19.4 lakh users this month which is a 0.55% increase since last month.

15) Wipro: The company announced the launch of the Wipro-Google Cloud Innovation Arena in Bangalore.

16) Coal India: Bharat Coking Coal, a subsidiary of Coal India, has signed a revenue-sharing contract of around Rs 1,880 crore with Prabha Energy.

  Coal India today said its subsidiary Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) has joined hands with power major NTPC to install a 50 MW solar power project in Madhya Pradesh.

17) Cadila Healthcare said its subsidiary has inked a pact with Integrace Pvt Ltd to sell two brands – Mifegest and Cytolog (Gynaecology). Zydus Healthcare Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, has inked the agreement with Integrace, a part of the portfolio companies of private equity firm True North.

18) HDFC Life is going to hold an EGM on September 29 for the proposed issuance of 8.70cr equity shares through a preferential issue to Exide Industries Limited.

19) Paras Defence IPO was subscribed 304.26 times at the end of day 3 of bidding. It received bids for 217.26 crore shares against an offer of 71.40 lakh shares.

Retail Individual Investors: 112.81 times the reserved portion

Non-Institutional Investors: 927.70 times the reserved portion

Qualified Institutional Buyers: 169.65 times the reserved portion

20) Infosys mentioned that over the last few weeks, the income tax portal has seen steady increase in usage with taxpayers’ concerns being progressively addressed. The company reported 3 crore logins on the tax portal and close to 1.5 crore Income Tax Returns filed in the new I-T portal.

  Infosys announced its collaboration with ServiceNow, a leading digital workflow company to provide enterprise level service management for customers in manufacturing companies. 

 Infosys announced a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop quantum computing capabilities and use cases. Infosys will use Amazon Braket to explore and build multiple use cases in quantum computing.

21) IIFL Finance will open a public issue of secured bonds on 27 September to raise up to Rs 1,000 crore.

22) Adani Enterprises: Adani Airport Holdings has signed a share subscription agreement with Flemingo Travel Retail and Mumbai Travel Retail for a strategic partnership to operate duty free outlets in airports and seaports.

23) Ashok Leyland and ABB Power Products have signed a pact to develop a pilot electric bus based on flash-charge technology. Flash charge allows charging of a battery within seconds.

24) Tata and Airbus have signed a Rs 22,000 crore deal for the production of 56 C-295 transport aircraft for the air force. 
 
Under the deal, 40 of the 56 planes will be manufactured in India by a team of Airbus Defence and Space and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) within 10 years of signing the contract. 

25) Twitter is now compliant with the new IT rules framed by the central government.

According to the rules, it has appointed a chief compliance officer (CCO), resident grievance officer (RGO), and a nodal contact person.

26) Tata Motors crossed the 10,000 customer mark for EV sales today. The company upscaled charging infrastructure with more than 700 installations across 120 cities in India. It also recorded a new feat by delivering its 10,000th electric vehicle in the Indian market.

27) KEC International has secured new orders of Rs. 1,157 crores across its various businesses.

28) IndusInd Bank has acquired 50 lakh shares or 4.79% of the paid-up equity share capital of Mcleod Russel India.

29) Indiabulls Housing Finance mentioned that it has re-paid Rs 7,075.84 crore to its non-convertible debenture (NCD) investors this month.

30) Vedanta mentioned that its decision to delist American depositary shares from the New York Stock Exchange is aimed at simplification.

31) Ultratech Cement announced plans to meet 100% of the company’s electricity requirements through renewable sources by 2050.

32) Jindal Steel & Power has been declared the preferred bidder for the Kasia iron ore and dolomite mine by the Odisha government.

33) The Aditya Birla Group (ABG) and Vodafone Group Plc may infuse fresh capital by way of equity into their financially stressed Indian telecom venture, Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL). The quantum of equity is not known yet.

34) Torrent Power acquires 156 MW Wind Power Plants from CESC.

35) Lincoln Pharmaceuticals is planning to launch Cephalosporin products soon. Company has acquired a facility in Mehsana, Gujarat. Investment in Cephalosporin plant would be Rs 30 crore. Acquisition and further capex will be funded from internal accruals.

36) Mphasis announced the acquisition of US-based Blink for up to US$ 94 million (~Rs 694.3 crore). Blink provides design consultancy services around user experience (UX), user research-based software product design and strategy, and customer experience (CX) design for marquee brands.

37) Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has concluded acquisition of the remaining 10.4% stake in Gangavaram port (GPL) from the Andhra Pradesh government for Rs 645 crore.

     Earlier, in April 2021, APSEZ had acquired 31.5% from Windy Lakeside Investment Ltd, a Warburg Pincus affiliate, and had signed an agreement for controlling stake of 58.1% held by DVS Raju and Family.

38) Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) has signed a five-year partnership with Automation Anywhere, a global player in robotic process automation (RPA) to accelerate and scale automation to drive innovation across its 30,000-strong employee organization.

39) Jubilant Ingrevia’s subsidiary Jubilant Life Sciences International Pte. Limited, Singapore has divested its entire 10 percent stake held in Safe Foods Corporation for US$ 18.2 million.

40) Shareholders of IDFC has rejected the re-appointment of Vinod Rai on the Board as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director, according to the information shared with the stock exchanges on September 22 post the 24th annual general meeting of the firm. According to the outcome of the voting, 62.3 per cent of the shareholders voted against the resolution while 37.7 voted in support. Rai is currently the Chairman of the Board.

41) KPIT Technologies Ltd will acquire Future Mobility Solutions GmbH (FMS) for up to 15.6 million euros (about Rs 135 crore).

42) Yes Bank, the largest shareholder of Dish TV India Ltd, has asked to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of shareholders and act on its recommendations to reconstitute the company's board. This follows Dish TV postponing the annual general meeting that was scheduled on September 27.

43) Indian Bank has informed the exchanges that it has declared two non-performing asset (NPA) accounts worth over Rs 300 crore as fraud and reported them to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The NPA accounts, related to Kiratpur Ner Chowk Expressway Ltd and Tantia Constructions Ltd, are worth Rs 172.7 crore and Rs 132.4 crore respectively.

44) Bond yields were almost unchanged as market participants awaited a weekly government securities auction and the scheduled borrowing calendar for the second half of FY22. 

   Yield on the 10-year benchmark paper (6.10% GS 2031) remained unchanged at 6.14% as compared to the previous close after trading in a range of 6.13% to 6.15%.

45) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducted the open market purchase of three government Securities under G-sec Acquisition Programme (G-SAP 2.0) and simultaneous sale of government securities for an aggregate amount of Rs. 15,000 crore each, which were completely accepted.

46) Kotak Securities plans to raise funds selling commercial papers maturing in three months at a coupon of 3.76% and has received commitments worth around Rs. 100 crore.

47) Mutual funds bought equity worth Rs. 4031.56 crore as against sale of Rs. 5597.27 crore as on Sep 20, 2021. This led to a net sale of Rs. 1565.71 crore compared with a net sale of Rs. 562.83 crore on Sep 17, 2021.

     • Mutual funds bought debt worth Rs. 7555.09 crore as against sale of Rs. 7206.72 crore as on Sep 20, 2021. This led to a net purchase of Rs. 348.37 crore compared with a net purchase of Rs. 2011.81 crore on Sep 17, 2021.
