Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.2%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.

Shares of Sona BLW Precision Forgings(up 2.6 per cent), TIINDIA(up 1.88 per cent), Ashok Leyland(up 1.75 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra(up 1.26 per cent) and Tata Motors(up 0.24 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Bajaj Auto(down 3.73 per cent), Escorts(down 2.14 per cent), MRF(down 1.7 per cent), Bharat Forge(down 1.51 per cent) and Bosch(down 0.62 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.2 per cent down at 11563.0.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 61.8 points at 16522.75, while the BSE Sensex stood down 185.24 points at 55381.17.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 17 ended in the green, while 33 closed in the red.

Shares of Zomato Ltd., Vodafone Idea, Suzlon Energy, Shree Ren Sug and YES Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Timken India, HBL Power, Rolex Rings, Raymond and Wendt India hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Kriti Ind, AB Cotspin India Ltd., Medico Remedies, Debock Sales & Mktg and Future Retail hit their fresh 52-week lows.
