Stock market update: Nifty Metal index falls over 1%; Hindalco Ind drops 4%

NEW DELHI: Nifty Metal index was trading with losses at 02:41PM (IST) on Thursday.

Shares of Hindalco Industries (down 4.13 per cent), NMDC Ltd (down 3.09 per cent), Jindal Steel & Power (down 2.06 per cent), APL Apollo Tubes (down 1.83 per cent) and Tata Steel (down 1.51 per cent) were the top losers in the index.

While Hindustan Copper (up 2.2 per cent), Welspun Corp (up 1.61 per cent), Ratnamani Metals & Tubes (up 1.09 per cent), MOIL (up 0.58 per cent) and Coal India (up 0.4 per cent) were among the top gainers.

The Nifty Metal index was trading 1.47 per cent down at 2361.05 around 02:41PM.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 54.45 points at 11550.1, while the BSE Sensex was down 194.13 points at 39108.72.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 were trading in the green, while 35 were in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, YES Bank, Tata Motors, IDFC First Bank Ltd. and Zee Ent. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Tata Steel (PP), J B Chem, Indiabulls Ventures (PP), Vinati Organics and Dr. Reddys Laborat hit their fresh 52 week high in today's trade, while Kuantum Papers Ltd., Ahimsa Industries Ltd. and Blue Chip India Ltd. hit fresh 52 week low in trade.
