Stock market update: Nifty PSU Bank index climbs over 2%; Canara Bank jumps 5%

NEW DELHI: Nifty PSU Bank index was trading with gains at 01:51PM (IST) on Wednesday.

Shares of Canara Bank (up 4.9 per cent), Punjab & Sind Bank (up 4.76 per cent), Bank of Baroda (up 3.88 per cent), Indian Bank (up 2.34 per cent) and Punjab National Bank (up 2.21 per cent) were among the top gainers.

While Bank of India (down 0.43 per cent) was the sole loser in the index.

The Nifty PSU Bank index was trading 2.34 per cent up at 2179.4 around 01:51PM.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 128.70 points at 14716.4, while the BSE Sensex was down 521.47 points at 49615.11.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 were trading in the green, while 25 were in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, PNB, IDFC First Bank and Tata Motors were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Intellect Design, Birla Corp, Orchid Pharma, Vardhman Textiles and Galaxy Surfactants hit their fresh 52-week high in today's trade, while Mittal Life Style, Jump Networks, Sanginita Chemicals, Shrenik, Future Retail, Jiya Eco Products, Sanwaria Consumer, Future Supply Chain Solutions, Future Lifestyle Fashions and MT Educare hit fresh 52-week low in trade.
