Veteran actor Anupam Kher discussed why Bollywood films have performed so poorly at the box office in recent times, whereas South Indian films have emerged as blockbusters. The actor stated that South Indian films focus on storytelling while Bollywood films focus on packaging a film around a movie star.

Anupam Kher's recent film, Karthikeya 2, is a Telugu movie starring Nikhil Siddhartha. It has fared well at the Hindi box. In a new interview on the film, Anupam appreciated the approach of South Indian cinema.

Bollywood makes movies for stars, not audiences.
In an interview with ETimes, Nikhil discussed the need to monitor the audience's pulse to create relevant films. In response, Anupam remarked, "You produce items for consumers. The problem begins when you begin to condescend to consumers by stating, "We're doing you a favour by making a terrific picture." You are currently viewing a fantastic flick. I've learned from making Telugu films that greatness results from a group effort... I recently completed a film in the Telugu language, I recently completed a film in the Tamil language; and I will soon complete a film in the Malayalam language."

Karthikeya 2 is a Chandoo Mondeti-written and directed mystery adventure film, the sequel to the 2014 film Karthikeya. Dr. Karthikeya, portrayed by Nikhil, is on a mission to locate the lost anklet of Lord Krishna. Anupam, who plays a supporting part in the film, posted a message on Instagram praising its success "My second film starring Karthikeya, after The Kashmir Files, is also a box-office triumph!"

Popular production houses are not giving me work.
Anupam Kher said, "I am not a part of popular Bollywood movies nowadays. There have been no offers from Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, or Sajid Nadiadwala. But I have no grievances. I have made a foray into a Tamil film called Connect and a Telugu film called Tiger Nageswara Rao. I have also appeared in Sooraj Barjatya's Uunchai."
