Stock market update: Nifty IT index advances 1.35%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a positive note on Wednesday.

Shares of Larsen & Toubro Infotech(up 2.02 per cent), Tech Mahindra(up 1.94 per cent), MPhasis(up 1.63 per cent), Mindtree(up 1.5 per cent) and Infosys(up 1.46 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, L&T Technology(down 0.2 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty IT index closed 1.35 per cent up at 29416.95.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended up 42.7 points at 17388.15, while the BSE Sensex stood up 214.17 points at 58350.53.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 ended in the green, while 25 closed in the red.

Shares of Zomato Ltd., YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, Tata Steel and IDBI Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Navneet Education, Vadilal Ind, Elgi Equipments, Ruchira Papers and FIEM Industries hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while SKP Bearing Industries Ltd., Birla Tyres, Melstar Info, Karda Const and Naga Dhunseri Group hit their fresh 52-week lows.
