PM Modi inaugurates 806-bedded Infosys-Foundation made Vishram Sadan at Jhajjar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Infosys Foundation Vishram Sadan (rest house) at the National Cancer Institute in the Jhajjar campus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The 10-storey structure has been built over an area of 271,250 sq. ft at an estimated cost of Rs 93 crore. The facility can accommodate families of about 800 underprivileged patients for both short-and long-term stay.

The PM, who participated in the event virtually, said the facility provided a great convenience for patients coming for cancer treatment. It will reduce the worries of patients and their relatives, he added.

He praised the Foundation for donating it and the AIIMS, Jhajjar for providing land, electricity and water. He thanked the AIIMS management and Foundation chairperson Sudha Murthy's team for their work and gesture.

The PM noted that India's corporate sector, private sector and social organizations have continuously contributed to strengthening the health services of the country. He cited Ayushman Bharat - PMJAY as a great example of this.

    100 CRORE VACCINE DOSES:
Today is a historic day as India has crossed the 100 crore vaccine dose mark. To counter the largest pandemic in 100 years, the country now has a strong protective shield of 100 crore vaccine doses. This achievement belongs to India and its citizens, Modi said at the event.

The PM thanked India’s vaccine manufacturers, workers engaged in vaccine transportation, and health sector professionals engaged in vaccine development.

Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty said: “AIIMS is one of the most premier hospitals and medical educational institutions in India, and we are honored to be able to support this cause, in our aim to help cancer patients and their families especially the underprivileged.”

AIIMS chairperson (media & protocol) Aarti Vij thanked the Foundation and said many of the institute’s patients come from low-income groups and are unable to help fund their treatment and other related expenses. The Sadan will provide accommodation to patients and their families free of cost.

This initiative adds to Foundation’s efforts to expand hospital and quarantine facilities and ensure proper medical treatment for the public. The CSR arm of Infosys also recently supported construction of a similar rest house at The Tata Memorial Centre, in Navi Mumbai, a 75,000 sq. ft state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary OPD block at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru, and a silver jubilee medical block at the Ramakrishna Sevashrama in Pavagada, Karnataka.

Over the last 18 months, Infosys committed about Rs 200 crore for Covid-19 relief efforts across India. The Infosys Foundation also set up a 150-bed Covid care hospital in Bengaluru, in partnership with the state government, a press release said.
