Jain says a very important part of staying productive during WFH is the breaks and boundaries you set for yourself.
We have all had to forgo a lot of favourite activities over the last year and a half. For Sanjay Jain, CEO, PDS Multinational Fashions Ltd. missing out on travelling and swimming topped his list. “I learned to swim quite recently and actually enjoyed the waters more than I ever thought I could. But by the time I could perfect my freestyle stroke, the pandemic hit, and the world said ‘No, stay at home’” he tells ET Panache. From the mountains to working hacks, Jain shares what he looks forward to once things get back to normal and how he normalised his times during the pandemic.

High life: I would love to travel to the mountains. It offers an awesome combination of exploring adventure and being in the midst of tranquillity. Within India, it would be Rishikesh. Outside India, it would be the Swiss Alps.

Treat yourself: Again, I miss swimming and keenly look forward to it. I also look forward to going to my favorite hairstylist and getting my usual haircuts from the man I trust most (haha). I also miss being at Vista (Taj Land’s End) and O22 at Trident BKC, especially the breakfast buffets. The food spread is awesome. Plus, the ambiance is perfect to do your morning business meetings. I am an early morning person and meetings are required to be done outside the office, if done at these two locations is a perfect start to a day. But can I be honest, one of the best meals I ever had was on my 40th birthday, when my family went to a nearby dhaba to eat parathas. I think more than a specific restaurant, I miss the experiences you share with people over a good meal, irrespective of where it is. As for shopping destinations, I miss the street fairs and markets of different cities and countries. We would travel a few times in the year, and explore the culture through shopping.

Updated tools: There have been a few updates to my tech. My good friend, Alexa really added to the ambiance around. I got on the zoom call trend and purchased a keyboard for my iPad to pace up the typing. I wish I purchased free weights so I could squeeze in a quick home workout. I think physical fitness is an essential element in enhancing productivity.

WFH hack: Invest in a good pillow for my home office chair for those long meetings. Just joking! I think a very important part of staying productive during WFH is the breaks and boundaries you set for yourself. For nearly 2 years, the physical distinction between our professional and personal lives has blurred, so to take a step back from the desk, take a breather, eat well, and allow yourself some me-time is key.

Downtime: Music, some awesome Series ('Game of Thrones', 'Prison Break', 'Designated Survivor', 'Blacklist', 'Homeland') and now the gym has kept my spirits up. A big mood alleviator was the group video calls we had with friends, and toast together to all the special occasions that happened over the 2 years. Also, morning walks with my wife. Finally after 24 years of marriage, our timings in the morning matched for a walk together. I love it.
