Stock market update: Mining stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Mining shares closed lower in the Wednesday's session.

Lexus Granito(up 4.58%), Orissa Minerals Development Company(up 2.40%) and MOIL(up 0.25%) stood among the top gainers.

NMDC Ltd(down 5.25%), Gujarat Mineral Dvpt Corporation(down 4.09%), KIOCL(down 3.02%), Coal India(down 2.95%), Ashapura Minechem(down 2.85%), Madhav Marbles and Granites(down 2.31%), Pokarna(down 1.33%), 20 Microns(down 1.32%), Aro Granite Industries(down 0.94%) and Oriental Trimex(down 0.41%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 225.5 points down at 15413.3, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 709.54 points at 51822.53.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation(up 1.56%), Hero MotoCorp(up 1.01%), Tata Consultancy(up 0.34%), Power Grid Corporation of India(up 0.14%) and Maruti Suzuki(up 0.03%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Hindalco Industries(down 6.72%), UPL Ltd(down 6.2%), Tata Steel(down 5.28%), JSW Steel(down 4.48%), Wipro(down 3.27%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(down 3.06%), Reliance Industries(down 3.04%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(down 3.02%), Coal India(down 2.95%) and Bajaj Finserv(down 2.68%) closed in the red.
