Stock market update: Nifty Auto index advances 0.18%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a positive note on Wednesday.

Shares of Bharat Forge(up 1.58 per cent), Sona BLW Precision Forgings(up 1.41 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(up 1.06 per cent), TVS Motor Company(up 0.94 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(up 0.59 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, MRF(down 1.4 per cent), Balkrishna Industries(down 1.24 per cent), Bajaj Auto(down 1.04 per cent), Ashok Leyland(down 0.89 per cent) and Escorts(down 0.16 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.18 per cent up at 11382.35.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 60.1 points at 16356.25, while the BSE Sensex stood down 214.85 points at 54892.49.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 22 ended in the green, while 28 closed in the red.

Shares of MRPL, Vodafone Idea, Suzlon Energy, TV18 Broadcast and Zomato Ltd. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of MRPL, Global Education, Vadilal Ind, Hindustan Motor and Zenith Birla hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Shigan Quantum Technologies Ltd., Aptus Value Housing, Richa Info Systems Ltd., MITCON Const & Engg. and Hikal Ltd hit their fresh 52-week lows.
