Stock market update: Nifty Bank index advances 0.42%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Bank index closed on a positive note on Friday.

Shares of HDFC Bank(up 1.02 per cent), Bank of Baroda(up 0.82 per cent), ICICI Bank(up 0.48 per cent), State Bank of India(up 0.4 per cent) and Bandhan Bank(up 0.38 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, Federal Bank(down 1.29 per cent), AU Small Finance Bank(down 0.79 per cent), Punjab National Bank(down 0.44 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank(down 0.25 per cent) and IDFCBANK(down 0.08 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Bank index closed 0.42 per cent up at 42506.8.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 80.2 points at 18027.65, while the BSE Sensex stood down 236.66 points at 60621.77.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 11 ended in the green, while 38 closed in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Suzlon Energy, PNB, Vodafone Idea and Zomato Ltd. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Baid Leasing, Arihant Academy Ltd., Hisar Metal Ind, Sterling Tools and Shreeoswal Seeds hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Kiri Industries, Sanwaria Consumer, Ballarpur Inds., Nupur Recyclers Ltd. and Venus Remedies hit their fresh 52-week lows.
