Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 140.05 points up at 17123.6 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Latteys Industries, Akshar Spintex, Kandarp Digi Smart BPO Ltd., Tips Films Ltd. and Maks Energy Solutions India Ltd., touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 43 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 7 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Power Grid, Coal India Ltd, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto and NTPC were among top gainers during the day, while Adani Ent., Asian Paints, Dr. Reddys, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 478.59 points up at 57625.91.
Traders piled up positions in Telecommunications, Mining, Beverages - Alcoholic, Sugar and Construction sectors, while selling was witnessed in NBFC, Miscellaneous, IT Enabled Services, Term Lending Institutions and Agriculture/Horticulture/Livestock sectors during the day.
