Stock market update: Sugar stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Sugar shares closed lower in the Thursday's session.

Ponni Sugars(Erode)(up 3.16%), Sakthi Sugars(up 2.57%), Dwarikesh Sugar Industries(up 2.20%), Dalmia Bharat Sugar & Industries(up 1.40%), Uttam Sugar Mills(up 1.31%), Ugar Sugar Works(up 1.28%), Balrampur Chini Mills(up 0.84%), MAGADHSUGAR(up 0.26%) and Rajshree Sugars & Chemicals(up 0.22%) stood among the top gainers.

Dharani Sugars & Chemicals(down 2.95%), Simbhaoli Sugars(down 1.89%), Shree Renuka Sugars(down 1.88%), EID Parry(down 1.60%), Rana Sugars(down 1.26%), Bannari Amman Sugars(down 1.20%), DCM Shriram Industries(down 1.01%), KCP Sugar & Industries(down 0.97%), Triveni Engineering & Industries(down 0.88%) and Dhampur Sugar Mills(down 0.85%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 245.4 points down at 18414.9, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 878.88 points at 61799.03.

Britannia Industries(up 1.26%), Hero MotoCorp(up 0.86%), SBI Life(up 0.3%), NTPC(up 0.29%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries(up 0.19%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation(up 0.11%) and Mahindra & Mahindra(up 0.04%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, Tech Mahindra(down 3.98%), Titan Company Ltd(down 2.64%), Infosys(down 2.46%), HDFC(down 2.09%), Eicher Motors(down 1.96%), JSW Steel(down 1.93%), Grasim Industries(down 1.92%), ITC(down 1.9%), Tata Steel(down 1.86%) and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(down 1.84%) closed in the red.
