    Titagarh wagons, Texmaco rail among five companies to bag Railways order

    Titagarh Wagons and Texmaco Rail & Engineering are among five companies that together won a ₹23,500 crore order to supply 60,000 wagons to the Indian Railways, officials in the know said.

    Hindustan Engineering Industries, Commercial Engineer & Body Builders Co (CEBBCO) and Oriental Foundry are the other companies that got the contract, they said. The wagons need to be delivered by fiscal year 2025-26.

    Titagarh Wagons got the largest share of the order at 24,177 units worth ₹9,249.48 crore. Texmaco Rail has the second highest order at 20,067 wagons with a value of ₹7,615.18 crore.

    The existing capacity of wagon manufacturers in the country is estimated at about 30,000 units per annum. This was lying underutilised since the procurements of the Indian Railways was only around 9,600 wagons a year.

    The railways currently operates about 300,000 wagons and the new ones will supplement this capacity.
