Stock market update: Nifty IT index falls 1.16%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty IT index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.

Shares of Tata Consultancy(up 0.34 per cent) and MPhasis(up 0.08 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, L&T Technology(down 3.36 per cent), Wipro(down 3.27 per cent), Mindtree(down 2.98 per cent), HCL Technologies(down 2.56 per cent) and Coforge(down 2.54 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty IT index closed 1.16 per cent down at 27488.4.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 225.5 points at 15413.3, while the BSE Sensex stood down 709.54 points at 51822.53.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 5 ended in the green, while 44 closed in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, Suzlon Energy, RBL Bank, IDFC First Bank and SAIL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Regency Ceramic, Rachana Infrastructure Ltd., Globe Intl. Carriers, Kohinoor Foods and Globesecure Technologies Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Dhanvarsha Finvest, Emmbi Industries, Shreyans Ind, Rollatainers Ltd and Spicejet hit their fresh 52-week lows.
