Share market update: BSE Telecom index flat; MTNL jumps 6%

NEW DELHI: BSE Telecom index was trading flat on Friday's afternoon session.

Shares of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 5.6 per cent), Optiemus Infracom (up 4.94 per cent), Vindhya Telelinks (up 3.28 per cent), Sterlite Technologies (up 3.15 per cent) and Tejas Network (up 1.67 per cent) were among the top gainers.

While Reliance Communications (down 4.79 per cent), GTL Infrastructure (down 3.9 per cent), Tata Communications (down 1.56 per cent) and Bharti Infratel Ltd (down 1.25 per cent) were the top losers in the index.

The S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 0.17 per cent up at 1282.87 around 01:02PM.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 5.75 points at 11194.4, while the BSE Sensex was 41.06 points at 37984.39.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 31 were trading in the green, while 19 were in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, Vodafone Idea, Alok Industries, Axis Bank and Bandhan Bank Ltd. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
