Beating the Tatas and the Adani Group stocks, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries (RIL) has emerged as the largest wealth creator on Dalal Street in the last 5 years. With a gain of Rs 13 trillion, RIL has emerged the largest wealth creator over 2017-22 and for the 4th fourth time in succession, shows Motilal Oswal's wealth creation study.

This takes Reliance’s overall No. 1 tally to 9 in the last 16 five-year study periods.

TCS (Rs 9,548 crore), Infosys (Rs 5,795 crore), HDFC Bank (Rs 4,108 crore) and Bajaj Finance (Rs 3,614 crore) were the other top wealth creators on the list. Adani Transmission, which made investors richer by Rs 2,538 crore during the last 5 years, is the only Adani group stock in the top 10 list.

Reliance also figures at No. 8 in the list of top 10 all-round wealth creators, based on the summation of ranks, under each of the 3 categories – biggest, fastest and consistent.

“For the past 8 successive study periods, benchmark indices have delivered muted returns ranging from 5-15%. Still, the top wealth creators maintained their track record of 10-15% outperformance over the benchmark. This reinforces our pet take on market timing - Forget markets, think stocks,” said Raamdeo Agrawal, chairman and co-founder of Motilal Oswal Financial Services.

By growing at a 5-year CAGR of 106%, Adani Transmission turned out to be the fastest wealth creator during the period, followed by Tanla Platforms, Adani Enterprises and Brightcom Group.

The most consistently performing stocks, based on the number of years the stock has outperformed in each of the last 5 years, include Adani Enterprises, Alkyl Amines, Coforge, Mindtree and L&T Infotech.

“Over 2017-22, Adani Enterprises emerged as the most consistent wealth creator. It outperformed the BSE Sensex in all the last 5 years and has the highest price CAGR of 97%,” said the report.
