Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 0.91%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Wednesday.

Shares of TVS Motor Company(up 0.64 per cent), Bajaj Auto(up 0.55 per cent), Escorts(up 0.51 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(up 0.02 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, TIINDIA(down 7.62 per cent), Ashok Leyland(down 1.98 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(down 1.59 per cent), Sona BLW Precision Forgings(down 1.57 per cent) and Eicher Motors(down 1.09 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 0.91 per cent down at 10377.4.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 72.95 points at 16167.1, while the BSE Sensex stood down 276.46 points at 54088.39.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 18 ended in the green, while 32 closed in the red.

Shares of Vodafone Idea, Zomato Ltd., YES Bank, Ibull Housing Fin and JP Power were among the most traded shares on the NSE.

Shares of Silver Touch Tech, Lexus Granito(India), Empyrean Cashews Ltd., Avro India and Vaxtex Cotfab hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Ibull Housing Fin, Dishman Carbogen, Welspun India, Shaily Engg Pla and KN Agri Resources Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week lows.
